FAQs

  • Counselling provides a space to explore together any current or past difficulties that may be having an impact on your daily life.

We can work collaboratively to bring greater self-awareness and help you feel empowered and free to choose how to manage any feelings which arise.

For some just having the space to talk and be understood is enough. While others may feel led to look at positive alternatives and constructive ways forward.

  • Everyone is different, some people come along for one or two sessions, others for several months or much longer.

During our initial meeting we can decide together what will be best for you, open-ended or a fixed number of sessions, this can be discussed at any time depending on your needs.

I regularly review our work together, usually at every 6th session.

  • Once you have contacted me, we will arrange a free 30 minute consultation, either by phone or zoom. This will be so we can both ask a few questions and find out if we feel working together would be helpful. If you would like to proceed, I will then send you an email with my paperwork.

  • Following our consultation and if you would like to proceed, I will send you a copy of my Contract, Privacy Policy, as well as my Risk Assessment if we are meeting face to face.

Have a good look through the paperwork and if you are happy with it, I ask you to kindly complete and send it back to me to save time at our first session.

  • At our first session, whether in person or online, I will check you are happy with the paperwork and explain the confidentiality policy. I will then complete an assessment, if there are questions we did not cover in our initial consultation.

Once we have completed the assessment, I like to allow as much time as possible to hear what has initially brought you to counselling.

  • Sessions cost £50, payable just before or immediately after the session, by direct bank transfer. My bank details are found in the Contract on page 2.

  • My training is Integrative, which means I integrate various therapies such as Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and CBT. I like to find out what would best suit each individual client, to bring flexibility to the session.

  • Confidentiality is foundational to our work and of key importance. Everything we discuss will be kept between us, although there are three exceptions which are important to outline if they arise:

    1) Unreported criminal activity or terrorism

    2) Imminent risk of harm to self or others

    3) A child at risk of harm

  • Yes, generally every 6th session is a time to review how therapy is going, although this can be discussed at any time.

  • My office is on the first floor and accessed via a staircase, which may be difficult for some clients. I am very pleased to offer you online therapy or do contact me if this is an issue and we can discuss options.

  • Data protection is highly important and I am registered with the Commissioner’s Office to ensure I am abiding by strict data protection rules.

My Privacy Policy includes details of Data Protection measures which are taken to keep your data safe. Please see Privacy Policy.

  • Initially, I have found weekly sessions bring continuity and momentum. After some time, some clients like to move to fortnightly sessions when they are managing better.
